Beauty sleep heals acne, blemishes, clogged pores
A sleep deprived person suffers from not only acne, blemishes, clogged pores but also dehydrated complexion, dark eye circles, more fine-lines and wrinkles.
Chronic sleep deprivation has mutlitude of effects on the body, mostly on our hormones. Imbalance in hormones esp. androgens which affect sebum gland activity can cause acne, blemishes and clogged pores. The body’s cells regenerate during sleep. When one sleep less than 7-8 hours a day, skin cell turnover comes to a halt. This causes skin to be dull, with fine lines and it may affect skin’s natural barrier function (which lead to dryness and sensitivity).
Studies demonstrate that sleep informs inflammatory signalling and that lost sleep results in daytime inflammation, which in turn affects your immunity. High levels of cortisol also break down collagen.
Here are a few tips to have a restful night
1) Stick to the same sleeping time every night
Everyone has different sleep needs. You probably know your own needs. Be strict with your sleeping time. Ideally you should sleep around 11pm as 11pm-3am is indeed when the liver detoxes.
2) Keep your room dark, cool and clean
Try to keep your bedroom neat and conducive for resting with clean sheets and tidy (clutter will stress you out!), In a warm and humid country like Singapore, it is important to be able to cool down the room before you enter. Taking a shower before you change into your pajamas will also help.
3) Limit the blue light
Try not to do any mind-stimulating activities like work right before bedtime. You may still continue to try to trouble shoot in your sleep and this will definitely affect the quality of your sleep.
