An avocado a day keeps the aesthetic doctor away.
Avocado is a very unique fruit as it contains high amount of healthy fats and anti-oxidants when consumed will help not only with our skin health but also support a healthy heart. It is loaded with healthy mono-unsaturated fatty acids, potassium, Vitamin K, A, E and C. In fact, 77% of the calories in it are from good fat, making it one of the fattiest plant foods in existence. But they don’t just contain any fat. The majority of the fat in avocado is oleic acid ~ a mono-unsaturated fatty acid that is also the major component of olive oil.
How does good fats keep the skin looking supple and plumped up?
Our skin is made of our 3 key layers. Epidermal layer, Dermal and Hypodermal layer. The hypodermal layer being filled with fat pads which keep the face looking supple and firm when supplemented well.
As a practicing beautician for many years and a biochemist/chemist by training, I have observed many naturally beautiful women maintained their skin health with a daily practice of simply applying facial oil, eating a diet high in mono-unsaturated fats and anti-oxidants.
Due to the warm and humid weather in Singapore, they generally put facial oil at night and would choose a ‘dry oil’ like rosehip oil, jojoba oil or hazelnut oil which gets absorbed into the skin without leaving an oily feeling. Facial oil serve to strengthen and protect the natural fat in the skin. Some oils are formulated with Vitamin A, E and a rich blend of omega 3, 6 fattay acids to calm, repair and protect the skin.
Coupled with a diet rich in colorful vegetables, good protein including nuts, fish or white meat and avocado, the perfect skin comes naturally. Systemic rejuvenation can only be sustained if one has an active lifestyle with a combination of strength, flexibility and cardio exercises.
Hence, it is our advice to our clients that a youthful skin belongs to someone who has an overall healthy lifestyle with managed stress. Just enough challenges to keep one feeling motivated, not bored but not highly strung all the time.
Finally, a simple outlook in life which focuses one’s positive energy in helping others as the key to existence is the most important. When one find the meaning in life does not rest only on materialistic achievement but towards helping others, one will keep being interested to keep one healthy so as to be of use to the world.
